Principal / Senior Exposure Scientist
The Principal/Senior Exposure Scientist should have a masters or doctoral degree in a science discipline, or environmental science/engineering, or related disciplines, with experience in industrial hygiene, or equivalent industrial experience as an exposure scientist or the appropriate level of experience and expertise to fulfil the role.
The successful applicant would need to have multi-disciplinary skills in chemistry, toxicology, environmental modelling, and industrial hygiene. The successful candidate will need to be competent to provide expert exposure science advice and regulatory strategy, including risk management solutions and practical assessment of exposure for health and environmental hazards. Influence stakeholders and clients of Penman Consulting Ltd. and act as a partner to Penman Consulting clients in delivery of human and environmental exposure assessments as part of the wider risk assessment process.
This permanent role will be flexible and ideally operate from our Brussels office, however the right candidate operating from our Oxfordshire UK office can be considered. We are open to hybrid-based work and regular attendance will be required at our offices in Oxfordshire, UK or in Brussels, Belgium.
The major focus will be on supporting the work Penman Consulting does in supporting its Clients with innovative approaches to meeting their needs for exposures assessments as part of the regulatory risk assessment process.

The successful candidate will:
- Be interested in and have expertise in exposure science
- Have the relevant expertise and background to be a European leader in exposure science
- Be able to plan, manage and work in a multidisciplinary team with project managers, regulatory specialists, toxicologists, environmental and exposure scientists and IT specialists.
- Have knowledge of mammalian toxicology, ecotoxicology and workplace and environmental modelling
- Have an in depth knowledge of EU based exposure models and platforms. These include for example the ECETOC TRA models, EUSES, Cons Expo, Stoffenmanager, Chesar and ART.
- Have a working knowledge of USEPA exposure models such as EPA's Consumer Exposure Model (CEM) and also EPA's E-FAST model
- Have good mathematical and data analysis skills
- Have a capacity for systems thinking and working with multiple stakeholders in industrial and regulatory settings.
- Be an expert and have experience with Global/EU REACH chemicals regulation.
- Have excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication (written and oral) skills
- Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Be comfortable working in the English language, and other languages are advantageous
- Be eligible to work in the EU or UK.
- Have experience managing budgets and resources and be capable to ensure adequate documentation of decisions and deliverables
- Be comfortable reporting on progress to the Section Head and management team and take responsibility for projects and deliverables
- Work closely with staff throughout the organisation and provide coaching and mentoring.
- Contribute to the sales process within the Company working with the Business Development Manager with support for industry contacts and knowledge
- Represent Penman Consulting in external fora and with clients.
The position will emphasise the need for continued professional development and candidates will be expected to continue learning with an emphasis on exposure science and global regulatory developments.
